Small Q for clarification pls:

"Transponder" traditionally meant "Mode A/C" device, set to a code. ("Squawk 3427" etc) Very rarely turned off.

"ADS-B Out" box, as you know, is a different kind of xponder, keyed to one plane.

Were these planes turning ALL of it off?

Do they all, some, or hybrid (both) use ADS-B for xponder bcast or is there a military land/sat based equivalent? I'm asking a dumb question because why would the military rely on civil equipment and op rules.... But I am anyway. Ideas?

Aircraft has at least 2 GNSS receivers: the data is distrib’d around avionics, time & pos’n. GNSS = D in ADS-B (via xponder). FMS uses GNSS as 1 of its pos’n inputs but terrestrial radio aids will be totally adequate if GNSS is absent (while aircraft ‘autonomous’ truth for pos is inertial/ADIRS)

Maybe finally some ATACMS, now they know Ukraine don't need them to strike deep inside Naziland but well to attack Nazis occupying some parts of Ukraine
