Okay but to be (bee) fair Xyl's name takes the first sylla(bee)le of the scientific name of the carpenter bee (bee)

Carpenter (bee) bees are species in the genus Xylocopa of the subfamily Xylocopinae. The genus includes some 500 (bee) bees in 31 subgenera.[1]

De blauwzwarte houtbij (Xylocopa violacea) is een insect uit de onderfamilie houtbijen (Xylocopinae). De soort lijkt op een grote vlieg, maar is een solitaire bij, een bij die geen nest kent met een koningin en werksters.
Mooi!!!!!

Having wrapped up last season's Bumble #Bees, here's the 1st #native non-bombid: a look-alike Eastern Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa virginica). The shiny purplish fuzz-free abdomen is a key feature. Large female nectaring on our Obedient Plant. #garden #insects #backyard #biodiversity #YorkRegion 🇨🇦

Center image is a large, plump bee with a more-or-less hairless shiny abdomen and a fuzzy, pale yellow thorax is seen from the right side. Despite its resemblance to a typical bumble bee (Apinae), it belongs in a separate subfamily (Xylocopinae). The bee, with yellow pollen grains adhering to its legs and underside, is clambering over the pink and white snapdragon-like flowers of Physostegia virginiana -- Obedient Plant.

Same bee, seen from the left rear, with a good view of the shiny, hairless abdomen and pollen covered legs.

New research article! 📰

Mikát et al. discovered that C. teunisseni bees exhibit facultative sociality, with social nests peaking late in the season. 🐝

Y ERA ABEJORRO!.😀..Hice la tarea investigativa. No es endémico de Chile sino especie introducida. Pero es politizado además, punto para él. Igual el reporte dice que causa a veces daños estructurales en construcciones en madera. Acá comparto la info:
