Fruit forward and excellent value, the 2023 Yalumba Sanctum Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra.
Yalumba Sanctum Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Yalumba have some prized Coonawarra holdings. The naming comes from the Menzies Vineyard being in the Inner Sanctum of the Terra Rossa strip. The iconography on the label represents the lauded red dirt that Coonawarra is so famous for. Stainless steel fermentation and maturation. Winemaker is Heather Fraser. Yalumba, Sanctum, Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra, 2023 Deep garnet in colour with a bright edge.

The 3rd release of this wine. Only 1 hectare of Grenache Blanc among the many Grenache Noir vines of Yalumba's Tri-Centenary vineyard. Winemaker is Sam Wigan. Yalumba, Vine Vale, Grenache Blanc, Barossa Valley, 2025 Very pale lemon with a soft green highlight. White florals dominate, hints of honeysuckle, waxy crayon, nectarine flesh, lemon shortbread, just opened lychee can and a little bit of fleshy butter.

I once watched the cooper at Yalumba winery make a 'medium toast' barrel for their Shiraz; it smelled amazingly good.
Hugely skilled guy who made barrels for a few producers in the Barrossa IIRC.

The 51st release of this incredible wine celebrates Yalumba's Paul Midolo, the executive director of sales for Australia and New Zealand. Fermentation in open top stainless steel (wild). Matured for 18 months in 21% new Hungarian hogsheads, French barriques and hogsheads, balance in older French and Hungarian barriques and hogsheads . Bottled under (a very good) cork. Winemaker is the experienced Kevin Glastonbury (who has announced his retirement from Yalumba).

A classic representation of the Barossa's patchwork of soils, vines and terroir. Winemaker is Alexey Alon Doumbouya Yalumba, Galway Vintage, Shiraz, Barossa, 2023 Could this be from anywhere but the Barossa? Baking spices, black tea, blood plums, chocolate ganache, a little blackberry and kissed with vanilla. Flowing, supple and full. Bright and ripe fruit given a decent frame of soft, fine tannin.
