Oysterville was one of the earliest white settlements in the region, and was primarily involved in the harvesting of native oysters. These were depleted over time, and now Japanese oysters are farmed in the bay.

There were old settlements along Yaquina Bay as evidenced by isolated fruit trees. In the last week, this one has bloomed out. I am not sure of what type of fruit tree this is, but it is definitely a harbinger of spring.
