I would pay the tiny penalty for low yield and then get all the points for labeling all the extra products of reaction on the NMR. So exciting.

And that finance in general has been a move towards putting us into more speculative products. Like IIRC you didn't used to have to seek out a "high yield savings account" to stick your money in a product that would reliably at least match inflation.

This explains the dynamism of early tech, which saw companies rising quickly to conquer their markets, only to yield to the temptation to extract more from customers and/or suppliers while underinvesting in improvements to their products and services.
