🚨Weakening the EU’s CO2 standards for cars & vans could cost the EU up to 185,000 automotive jobs by 2035.

Upholding the 2035 zero-emission target would maintain current employment levels—and, if combined with industrial policies to strengthen EU EV supply chains, could even create jobs long term.

polite note: We need to get to ZERO emissions to avoid climate disaster. Carbon removals are essential to deal with the ~5% of emissions we will find very hard to stop (not to replace the 95% emission reduction we need to achieve). It's complementary. Habitat restoration will play a key role in it.😉

Cool paper, uhm, hot paper about the Zero-Emission-Commitment ZEC, which was said to be ~0, but turns out it's not.
I think, they omit permafrost thaw despite its known*❗ amounts of CO2e emissions per century. So I quietly add >0.1C to the green line and >0.2C to the others for each century.

Zero emissions commitment depends on warming level | Nature Climate Change
Limiting global warming to Paris Agreement1 targets requires rapid reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, particularly CO2. Even after emissions cease, global surface temperature and atmospheric CO2 concentrations do not necessarily stabilize immediately because of thermal and carbon cycle inertia. The delayed response is quantified by the zero emissions commitment (ZEC): the change in global mean temperature following the complete cessation of anthropogenic CO2 emissions2,3. Although the ZEC directly influences assessments of the remaining carbon budget and the reversibility of warming4,5, the ZEC has not previously been explored systematically across different levels of global warming. As a result, it remains unclear whether the ZEC should be expected to remain near zero, as is often assumed in policy assessments, or whether the ZEC varies with the warming level at net zero. The processes governing such state dependence also remain unknown. In the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 °C (ref. 6), the ZEC was assumed to be approximately zero on multi-decadal timescales, but this assessment was based on sparse and heterogeneous evidence from a small number of models. To improve understanding of the ZEC, the Zero Emissions Commitment Model Intercomparison Project (ZECMIP; 7) coordinated a...
