Lou Zocchi possessed many talents. He promoted an industry before it was even remotely an industry. He believed in the power of our community, its excellence, and always had fun. We shall not see his like again.

The Chaosium remembers you fondly Lou, and wishes you Vale and Farewell.

Word is that Lou Zocchi passed today.

He was one of the earliest distributors of RPGs, helping them to get out to players across the country.

He published foundational early RPGs like Space Patrol and Superhero: 2044 (the latter the first superhero RPG).

Dice legend Lou Zocchi, gamer and inventor of the zocchihedron and champion of balanced, sharp-edged dice, has passed.

Most may recall him from videos of his impassioned pitch for good quality dice, or from seeing him at cons over the past 50 years.

Roll in peace, Lou!

RIP Lou Zocchi, master of weird dice & creator of the d100 Zocchihedron; also a key figure in #StarTrek games history, writer of the 1st (unlicensed) ST tabletop wargame that evolved into Star Fleet Battles + publisher of Space Patrol, arguably the roleplaying game that set the tone for ST RPGs. 🖖

Lou Zocchi passed away last week. The mystery of this 1973 Alien Space Battle Manual attachment TV game that shouldn't or didn't exist will forever remain a mystery.

TSR sold Creative Publications polyhedral dice in their mail order business for use with D&D. They also sold percentage dice (two d20s numbered 0-9 twice) made by Lou Zocchi, an enterprising game developer who began producing his own d20 dice, (and eventually superior full sets of polyhedral dice)

Louis Zocchi of GAMESCIENCE Dice fame passed away. Almost all of my time playing various RPGs has been with the dozens of sets of Zocchi dice I own. I found his passion for dice very convincing. Here he is talking about how dice are made and why how they are made matters.

Lou Zocchi was a true legend - a word that’s so often overused. But in this case, none other fits.

The first true SF game I played was STAR FLEET BATTLES. I have such fond memories of 14-year old me pulling strings across the floor in ship-to-ship battles…

Seeing numerous reports that Lou Zocchi has died. RIP to a legend of the game. Can’t imagine anyone else will ever have a die size named after them.

Very sad to hear of the death of the great Lou Zocchi, who spent much of his life advocating for higher standards in dice manufacturing. He and his infectious enthusiasm will be sadly missed.

On a more pedestrian level, I now have a hook to hang my next column for Wyrd Science on.

Lou Zocchi of Game Science made d20 percentage dice with +signs to make it easier to figure out percentages before that players had been marking half the faces different color to read it. Armory, Windmill Hobbies others made better dice than TSR offered so called "high impact dice" that were durable
