Here's everything I've done so far on broligarchy, all in one place, starting with my Inauguration Day interview on @thedailyshow.com with Jon Stewart, through multiple BlueSky threads on the subject, some other interviews & a couple articles in @theatlantic.com. 1/9

we've never had much reason to articulate this before a.i., but a reason we enjoy literature, art, music, etc. is that we know it is one human mind trying to express something fundamentally human and otherwise inexpressible to another human mind

If you were an American, how would you have responded to "stop him" from renaming the Gulf?

Please be specific about the actions you would take as an individual citizen in that situation.

Good news: Americans will in fact get up off our butts to defend things/people we value.

Bad news: Trump really wants to have protesters shot, à la Renée Good and Alex Pretti. It does tend to put a damper on expression of our 1A rights.

Thank you. It seemed self-evident that the premise of the event--"consensual non-consensual" sex between employee & boss--was so absurd that I didn't need to stipulate that genuine consent isn't possible given the structual power differential. It's not a meeting of equals engaged in temporary play.

I am aware of the BDSM community and that's not what the thread is about.

Do you think an employee can freely consent to a rape role-play requested by her boss--the person who writes her performance reviews, decides whether she gets to keep her job? I don't.

Very true. Inconvenient facts such as this have not prevented irony-poisoned edgelords from claiming that it's nbd if Trump tears down the Center.

I don't tolerate AI slop on my timeline.

Same reason they won't pay taxes: 1) they lose control of the money, and 2) they don't get to demand adulation for their "good works."
Yes. It does not matter if you think the Kennedy Center is bougie: private individuals do not get to destroy public goods.

If you budge one iota on this stance, then you lose the right to object when he demands bits of the national parks as a treat. You've already agreed with him on the principle.
I know there’s a savvy take that being attached to the east wing or the kennedy center is a sort of west wing lame-o attachment to the symbols of power and on the other hand

he fucking bulldozed our collective property

My neighbors just got the shingle roof replaced on their 3,000 ft2 two-storey house for FORTY THOUSAND US DOLLARS.

You win.

It is "legit" in the sense that the broligarchs have a successful track record in getting the US government to insure them against the downside risks of their (the broligarchs') reckless decisions.
So even if you think their argument is self-contradictory, they may well get the policy outcome.
In authoritarian states, “law” upholds lawlessness, and its first duty is to keep the leader safe from domestic or outside accountability processes. Judicial capture is the means, and the conversion of the law into what the leader and his enablers need it to be is the end.

25 cents for me

The Broligarchs bought the US government. The EU is trying to regulate them, but the US keeps threatening to pull out of NATO if the EU touches Trump's donors.

I tire of these parasites.

They do everything in their power to destroy the democratic governance and regulatory systems of the countries that enabled them to grow rich, but they always come running when it's time to foist the costs of their reckless decisions onto taxpayers.

Alex Karp of Palantir says the AI industry must be nationalized to protect it from lawsuits if it accidentally destroys the world. More likely, he sees the bubble about to burst and he wants to be bought out with our tax dollars before that happens.

This is exactly how the anti-abortion argument works: via people unbidden appointing themselves the sole spokespeople for hypothetical future generations, who are conveniently unable to speak for themselves.

Part of my professional life is the study of fraud--its history, its mechanisms, its hallmarks. I have published peer-reviewed work on the subject for ~15 years, taught courses on it, am generally considered a reliable source on the subject.

I know rich people's bullshit when I see it. ymmv

Run, don't walk, to read the whole thing (link below), which concludes thus:

Thread on the sociological studies of using coerced group sexual activity to test and insure the loyalty of group members, especially among male elites.

What's being described in the AI/EA community is not consensual group sex: it's coerced sex ("consensual non-consensual" they call it) with ppl who control your earning & advancement opportunities.

It's revealing bc pressure to engage in group sex is ALSO a hallmark of mafia & criminal groups. 1/x
Honestly "cult" is probably generously downplaying the horror of an industry that has normalized the idea of boundary eroding sex parties attended by all the people who have control over your professional & financial future. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm sure you're right. Making it even more interesting how Trump and the EA guys converge in their methods of group bonding. Remember the story about Epstein putting Trump on speakerphone to enjoy the experience of Epstein victimizing another girl? There's a whole sociological literature on this.

That ensures no girl ever again qualifies for National Honor Society, Valedictorian/Salutatorian, whatever they use as Dean’s List (top 5%), since no boy will ever have his grades destroyed by a typically irregular teenage menstrual cycle.

and we wonder why so many people hate exercise.

It is a common feature of groups that operate based on secrecy and/or criminal activity. There's a whole sociological literature that specifically references the role of coerced group sex as a loyalty test and source of kompromat.

Anyway, for more background on the uses of group sex to bind members of criminal conspiracies together via loyalty testing and kompromat gathering, I highly recommend the work of Kimberly Kay Hoang (see above) and Diego Gambetta on the Italian mafia, especially this book:
