This summer, as the UK faced its hottest summer ever and wildfires swept across the UK and the rest of the globe, he called for oil and gas companies to pay higher taxes to fund climate adaptation. That is alongside investment in cooling homes and public spaces and bringing water companies into public ownership. Green MPs, Peers and Leaders have written to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero to demand that the Government doesn't approve the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea.

Approving new drilling at Jackdaw will not take a penny off energy costs, and will fuel the climate emergency.

Is it "pragmatic" to approve new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea that could cost between £119 billion to £336 billion in climate damage? Sounds more like climate and economic vandalism.

Small businesses are feeling the squeeze whilst large banks are raking in obscene profits. It's time for windfall tax on big bank profits to end rip-off Britain.
