My bigger concern is how much this all illuminates the full tech capture of regulation. In a functioning society our representative government would hear the dangers of AI and say, “yeah we’re gonna stop you all right there for a minute.”
I don’t think the dynamics here are that complicated. Imagine a foot race where the winner gets a trillion dollars, but as the leaders of the pack approach the end line they see it’s at the very edge of a sheer 1000’ cliff. They would probably try to coordinate some slowdown.

The good news: this year's COVID vaccines have been approved.

The bad news: thanks to RFK Jr. / GOP antivax fuckery, it'll be a pain in the ass getting yours—and getting it covered by insurance—if you're not over 65.
What to Know About New Covid Vaccines for Fall 2026 (Gift Article)
The shots have been approved for people 65 and older, and for younger people with underlying conditions. Others may be able to get them off label.

Let's do some Canadian pipeline-wildfire math.

The Canadian Energy Center says growing oil exports by 1.5M barrels/day **could** boost GDP by ~31B annually.

Meanwhile, wildfire smoke health costs alone - just the health costs, nothing else - averaged 23B/year, past tense. And they're growing fast.
