there probably never will be a robotics chatgpt moment, physical matter could never scale in the way millions of people signed up for chatgpt in a couple weeks

a self-repairing machine that's safe for a non-technical person to use (for some value of "safe") is also safe for a dubiously competent local model to use. can this scale? well, uh... um. wait. oh no.

I accept Pascal’s wager but only for the PRH
Yann LeCun and Randall Balestriero just Proved the Platonic Representation Hypothesis and found a better way to achieve it.

Their text only JEPA got the same image-text alignment with 42x fewer training samples than NTP, using the same text data!

Man I am having a rough time getting though Use of Weapons. First attempt stalled out about halfway through, second attempt I’m at 90% and I just have no desire to pick it up anymore. First time I’ve had an IMB that feels like it actively resists reading somehow. Antimemetic countermeasures?

You can just do the crazy CS ideas of the past now

Future of computing? All those ideas can be fully fleshed out toys you can play with now.

You dont even have to be creative here, there is so much to borrow.

the major AI labs want a coordinated slow down, so we should give it to them by implementing strict renewable energy demands upon them — it would be a win win for everyone

every major AI lab should be required to use 100% renewable energy, build solar infrastructure, do rigorous environmental impact assessments, and operate at carbon neutral or better

The data center buildout could cause a massive increase in gas prices as companies scramble for limited supplies and infrastructure fails to meet demand.

deepseek 4.1 flash is a great model (approaching excellent) so long as you never EVER have to talk directly with it

Someone reverse engineered their Samsung TV using codex. They found that Samsung TVs were using always on mics, network mapping, and all kinds of Spyware that would collect data and sell it to data brokers.

A day later, their openai account was banned and frontier labs cracked down on doing this.
