I was young the first time the news disturbed me and how fortunate for me my great-grandmother was alive.

"Oh Allie, I am so sorry. None of this is new. Your parents think they discovered injustice. [she cackled] Hardship and cruelty are constants best combated, not by outrage, but love."
Stop treating every incoming request as a mandate.

Just stop.

Boundaries are not just emotional.

Boundaries are logistical.

Boundaries are best asserted without emotion and in order to avoid unnecessary emotional distraction

Ultimately tools of pragmatism.

A routine protects.

A well‑kept routine protects you from the volatility other people create. #livingclean

Clarity comes from removing obligations that never should have been yours.

Sadly the obligations may include obligations to people or people themselves.

Sorry in advance for my random-osity, but:

Those who suffer ingrown toenails deserve a great deal more empathy. It is sorrowful and miserable.

Here endeth my self-pity.

There’s a discipline in refusing to let public chaos rearrange your inner life. I learned that from people who lived through eras far harsher than anything I’ve seen.

I take no credit. I am grateful for having been instructed.

TikTok testing peer‑to‑peer payments in DMs is peak 2026 energy. Of course the app that turned trends into careers now wants to turn chats into revenue streams.

How to feel.....this is greed? Convenience?

Every generation inherits a version of difficulty, but the people who raised me treated endurance like a craft. They didn’t dramatize it-they shaped it. That kind of steadiness stays with you long after the moment that taught it.

Trump Has Been Rigging Polls for Over a Decade
A new Truth Social post from Donald Trump has everyone talking about Trump using the FCC to rig polls in his favor. But this isn’t the first time he’s rigged the polls.

Little House in the Big Woods was one of my favorites growing up—less for the story than for its descriptions of processes like curing meat and making maple syrup. So it feels fitting that I now live in Wisconsin and spend weekends* doing things like canning apple butter made from trees in my yard.

For me:

Routines work because they remove negotiation. The fewer choices you make about trivial matters, the more capacity you have for anything that actually requires judgment. Discipline is a form of protection--not subjugation.

La Dolce Vita (1960)

The film treats glamour as a philosophical condition rather than a lifestyle. Lush images, but the structure is austere—episodes arranged like moral questions. Beauty here is not indulgence.

Spectacle can hollow itself out.

One notices how often public debate confuses urgency with importance. The loudest matter is rarely the most consequential, yet it receives the attention simply because it demands it. A steadier civic culture would reverse the order.

Trite thought on a Sunday night:

Stability is a virtue born of practice. You build it the same way you build anything else: one deliberate choice at a time, even when nobody’s watching. #routine

"The president walked onto the field at 1826 to a sustained chorus of boos.

Ambient crowd noise was about 78 decibels. Booing brought it to 84."

A truly fantastic description of codependency:

Yes, I will drive you across two provinces to see a specialty herbalist. For myself, I shall do nothing.

Highlights ever-present guilt and low self worth that must be overcome with obsessive service to others. Cannot let vileness be discovered.

Some months ago, I saw a quote: “I want to tell you the gentlest thing.”

I wonder what it meant—“You are seen”? “You can rest”?

For me, gentleness feels like morning light on hills, the scent of linden trees, a quiet kindness that asks nothing.

I would like to be told the gentlest thing.
