This is a very good thread that reminds me VISCERALLY of my honeymoon, my first international trip. We were supposed to land in Shannon, Ireland, got diverted to Dublin (this is BEFORE the airport was nice, it was a shithole then) but our rental car was still in Shannon.
lol my flight got diverted because of a medical emergency and they landed us in reykjavik in the middle of the night and deplaned us and sent us through passport control and then the crew vanished and then british airways sent us links to book an overnight hotel room but for a hotel at heathrow

This is so much of what is wrong with everything, and why I'm increasingly interested in the people who've decided to ignore trends and fads and just build their own good things.

It's fairly standard for TV news to jerk themselves off about a story they've LANDED some BREAKING SCOOPY SCOOP about, but even grading on that curve this is masturbatory.
CBS devoted the first four minutes of the CBS Evening News last night to reporting on the fact that CBS News had landed this interview. The segment contained no sound bites from the interview and no reporting on what Clancy had said. It was just footage of him being mic’d up and sitting down.
It's impossible to trust anything Bari Weiss does at CBS News & 60 Minutes. The same is true with this Patrick Clancy interview. Yes, hearing from him is newsworthy but this massive CBS PR campaign makes it feel more like a stunt to boost ratings than serious journalism. Plus, Ross Douthat? Yikes.
