The card mini game is called Triple Triad (three threes) despite the fact cards battle in all 4 cardinal directions and you get to play up to 5 cards per game.

I get the board is a 3x3 grid and it's fun as hell. It just always irked me because it doesn't refer to the cards, it refers to the board.
Currently replaying FFVIII and going through some of their design decisions. Right now I'm baffled by the inexplicable choice of making a stop/go minigame for train sequence where RED is go and BLUE is stop.

I like this idea. Like crew but for walls.

Garrison X - something cool happens. The mechanic can represent any number of things: soldiers at a fort, scholars at a library, cooks at a kitchen and so on.

Some special garrisonable walls could save your creatures from a board wipe effect. It's neat.
thinking about Walls – what if they were never designated under the creature type umbrella? what if Walls could also be "buildings" or "structures" that creatures could climb or hide within?

What with all the new Metroid news, I figure it's a good time as any to share the coolest Super Metroid remix out there. Kudos to Dominic Ninmark for creating this hype af track

I feel this deeply. I made a behavior-programming-discipline specific starter kit here in Bsky cause I really feel this discipline is extremely important. But I can't call it "AI development" anymore because folks understand something different when I say that. And that fucking sucks - they took it.

NEW ARTICLE NEW ARTICLE NEW ARTICLE!

Emotions are the basic and most important part of human function, as essential as protein. So why is it that so many game designers don't design for emotion?

it’s not enough to build something, part 2: you must be aware that someone will play the video game
Years ago, a teen pitched an idea to me: “what if you wrote a story about an alien from the perspective of an alien?”

Designing good UI/UX requires a great deal of empathy as it demands you step out of your perspective as a designer and look at things from the perspective of the user. Balance, highlight and access are all aspects to focus on. Thus, designing a good charcuterie board is UI/UX. In this Ted talk I...

I'm pretty sure this is well trodden ground but MTG absolutely nailed with the names they gave their zones with how much they contribute to the integration of flavor and function. 1/

This is a sick game. It's innovative, true to its inspirations and fun as hell. Do yourself a favor and play the hell out of this game.

I'm not being very productive, which could be due to sleep or thyroid. But what I can do is dick around on social media.

So let's share again the starter packs I made of game devs who refuse to use gen AI in any capacity.

I hate genAI with a passion but I actually think watermarking AI content is a responsible feature. Being undetectable should not be a selling point, at all.

Claude users are canceling their subscriptions, citing Anthropic’s new AI watermark
One developer said they feared Anthropic's watermark could lead clients to flag their work as AI-generated and raise questions about authorship.

A few times over the course of my life, I've developed skills to be competent at something out of spite. It mostly happens when someone says "this is one of those things that only a few people can understand, so don't bother"

Fuck you, I'll bother - watch me.

Hearing about AI elicits the same.

I like how the goose ominously appears in this slide transition without mention.

I find it to be like a prog song, where a riff is building in the background, ready to become the main melody after a few bars.
