Chicagoan Urbanist trying to improve the Salt Lake suburbs one bike lane or bus route at the time. Village of Addison and the CTA Purple Line's biggest critic.

Taking a late night Metra train out of Union Station? Good luck finding a comfortable place to wait for your train.

Having to pay $60 to fill up the tank of your sedan is a lot more palatable when you only have to do it once every couple months and not every week. I just wish more people had the opportunity to not have to drive everywhere.

A reminder that when IDOT widened IL-53 from 3 lanes to 5 in 2012, they completely omitted adding a sidewalk along the Itasca portion of the project.

Metra's Lalapalooza ridership was actually down this year. BNSF had a hard crash in reverse peak, evening service and weekend service.

Just another weekend with construction delays on the UP-N of "up to 20 minutes" making it entirely useless.

Amtrak railfans have been feasting in Salt Lake City with back-to-back days of trains passing through in the daytime. If only this could be the norm and not the exception.

I will be live posting today's August 12th, 2026 UTA Commission Meeting for those that need a quick summary of what is discussed.

The amount of Metra trains delayed by freight trains has more than doubled over the past year.

Last night the rail crossings of 600 West, 200 South, 800 South, 900 South and 1700 South in downtown Salt Lake City were blocked by freight train stopped on the tracks for almost 2 hours. More reason we need to #BuryTheRails

Imagine being in LaGrange and wanting to take #1258 to have to wait two hours for #1262 as both #1258 and #1260 express past you, then have #1262 delayed by 40 minutes.

Getting home after donating blood is a lot nicer and safer when you don't have to drive and can take transit back. Also being able to watch bees pollenate helps pass the time.

A busy morning on the tracks in downtown Salt Lake City. All of the trains were Union Pacific either passing through or trying to get into the intermodal yard. More reason we need to #BuryTheRails

How is NITA still allowing Metra to close entire lines over the weekend with no alternative options? First you had the entirety of the UP-NW for a Sunday, then you have midday service on the MD-N Fox Lake Branch, now the entirety of the RI for the full weekend.

We could run the express that is about to stop at Arlington Heights as a local or we could not and have a 3 hour gap in service along the densest part of the line.

As bad as it is to not have Sunday service on the FrontRunner, I would much rather have reliable Saturday service than having to deal with weekend construction delays like this.
