Five years ago to the day, I received the proofs of my second book. Half an hour later, my granddaughter was born. As she embarks on her journey in Reception I hope the principles of The Wellbeing Curriculum and its companion volume are in place for her and her generation.

Normally keep personal stuff to FB, but there's people here still who know me. Mum passed away this week, having been a mum for 61 years, a wife for 66, a grandmother for 30 and a great-grandmother for 5. 💔

Today’s DfE guidance on inclusion bases matters.

It recognises something many mainstream schools already know - that some pupils need more than ordinary classroom adaptation, but still deserve to belong in their local school community.

Wellbeing isn't about quick wins, but there's certainly one to be had with this current heatwave. Flexibility, compassion and empathy trumps everything. Accountability can wait. The welfare of staff and children matters more. Some schools have this spot on. Others show no care.

Values should be practiced and lived, not posted and laminated. Are organisational values mere word salad?

It is seven years to the day since my first book, The Wellbeing Toolkit, was published.

My readers tell me that this book has changed their thinking about staff wellbeing in schools: my aim in writing the book.

So, why is the attrition rate of school staff still so high?

Proud to have finished a creditable and close third place alongside Gary Dark in Charlton Village and Riverside for Greenwich Green Party in Greenwich elections. Prouder still that we returned 13 Greens to the council chamber.

Not posted about #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek this week as been busy talking to 8 schools about their amazing work; joined up thinking, holistic practice, knowledge of community and context, bringing staff and parental MH into their offer too. If your school does this, get in touch.

Whilst not into resolutions, I want 2026 to be a year where I convince more people to be considerate of their environment; not just the natural and physical environment, but their social, emotional, behavioural and community awareness too.

#AdventWellbeing Day 24.
Emotional intelligence trumps artificial intelligence.
Knowledge trumps guesswork.
Culture trumps tokenism.
Relationships trump micromanagement.

Wellbeing isn't hard, it's complicated by people getting it wrong.
