How many people are out here with American healthcare, learning how to operate on themselves because they still can’t afford to get care from an actual doctor, surgeon, etc
July 29, 2026 at 4:59 PM
I just spoke to the surgeon who removed a cyst last winter. I’m going to need a new one removed. She told me to come in sooner than later bc Kaiser will soon call this a full charge “cosmetic procedure”

It’s upsetting because my last procedure basically saved my life! She cleaned out an infection.

The Kaiser Permanente medical system is a joke, if you desire anything further than 15 minute video meetings to get medication prescriptions. The pharmacy’s home delivery option is nice tho.

Oregon Country Fair is basically private school for hippies.

There’s much to learn about this aspect of Oregon culture, and it actually costs a lot to seem like we’re all living off the land or whatever.

Duckworth Dock is not accessible by car, which may be why the view up and down the river feels so extra special. You literally can’t see the city like this, from the car on highway.

Whenever I watch the 5th Element, it’s always way weirder than I remember. Which is impressive, because I like to watch weird movies, on purpose.

Last Day of school, today!!
I’m choosing to walk into that building with a smile and enjoy these freshman, no matter how much they act like knuckleheads. Because they’ve only got a couple more sheltered years left in life before *gestures at everything*

Dude.

Something’s gotta give.

This country can’t keep on like this forever. Feels like we’re all just waiting impatiently for the last straw to break this camels back.

I’m a PFSP worker using my unpaid lunch break to say this: I can’t afford to work for Portland Public Schools.

A COLA adjustment that doesn’t keep up with inflation is effectively a pay cut.

As a millennial who can't afford to live in the home I bought, who sacrifices avocado toast each month to keep my credit score stable, the utility hikes and new property taxes in Multnomah County are such a shiv to the gut.

Today is the seniors last day of school in Portland high schools.

Were my parents as worried about the state of the country / world when I graduated in the 2000s?

I feel like this is measurably worse than the 2008 “financial crisis.”

I think we had more hope and resilience back then.

Overheard a customer in the local motorcycle themed cafe this morning

“Did that neck tattoo hurt? …
Hell yeah, I got one coming up in a couple days.
There’s not much art for sale today…”

Show up in solidarity with City workers and tell Mayor Wilson that there is no "Portland Renaissance" without workers providing essential services!

Wear union swag, bring the family, costumes and snacks provided, face painting and games for the kids!

so today there’s a “chemical plant implosion” in Longview WA

by itself, that’s highly concerning

taken together with all the other similar events and we’re all just supposed to keep going to work (those of us who still have jobs) and keep calm and carry on

Returning to Seattle every once in a while is great, cuz I grew up here so I only experienced the city from a child’s POV. Now I get to re-experience this place as an adult and it’s So Fun.
