If there’s evidence of fraud or other financial crimes, let’s see it. But trying to denaturalize and deport a sitting member of Congress over mistakes a parent allegedly made on immigration forms when she was a child is immoral and reprehensible. We can’t stand for it.

Arguments have begun in Safe Homes St. Paul v. City of St. Paul, the procedural battle over whether the St. Paul City Council broke the law when it refused to place the Right to Repair ordinance on the ballot on grounds that the law itself was allegedly invalid.
Tomorrow, Monday 10/12, the Minnesota Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in the Right to Repair case. To recap: the City Council voted not to place the question in the ballot, the District Court disagreed and ordered that it must be, and the MN Supreme Court declined extraordinary remedy.

The term everyone is dancing around is "secret police", a hallmark of totalitarian regimes.
Things got more insane just about as soon as I posted this last night.

DHS is now arguing that we cannot even put the names of ICE officers in our lawsuit against those officers. Their position is that, if a defendant works for DHS, they cannot be named in a lawsuit.

Never seen anything like it.

That Hemingway quote about hunting men is alarmingly common in police culture. I've seen it on police union merch and on t-shirts and other swag at SWAT competitions and policing conferences.
“The coin in question was listed for sale on eBay and is branded “U.S. ERO Yuma ICE.” Along with a snarling wolf-like creature, the coin, which is in the shape of a police badge, features two twisted mottoes.
“There is no hunting like the hunting of man,” it says.”

On 9/11 I read a Hunter S. Thompson essay in ESPN and listen to “Makeshift Patriot” by Sage Francis. Both came out shortly after the attack and are some of the few pieces of media that accurately predicted where this country was headed in the way that only art can.

In the year since Charlie Kirk’s killing, the federal government has, as promised, ramped up its targeting of leftist groups and individuals: Minneapolis anti-ICE activists have been raided and indicted. Orgs like PSL & CodePink subpoenaed. Hasan Piker is an existential threat.

A self-defense argument is not going to work in Minnesota.

You have a duty to retreat in the state, which did not happen here.

So make sure all your friends who might be potential jurors know about jury nullification because punching fascists is good.

Now, courts have forced them to answer to something much more enduring than right-wing pressure: the law.

Because the behavior of the parties is not symmetrical. If we genuinely brought back shaming of shitty, cruel, deceptive behavior, the shame would overwhelmingly fall on the right, and the whole elite political & media system has shown again & again that it values symmetry over decency.
One of the things we have lost is the power to shame public officials. It seems quaint but it is actually very important. Without it, formal law is significantly weaker and our lives are significantly poorer.
