Pete is lost in terms of modern war. I use the example of this outgunned Ukrainian army officer who successfully terrorized a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math."

At the time, someone commented, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."

I had a teacher recommend this book to me at that exact age. It bums me out a bit that I would have been seen as someone who would be interested in it. I was. 🤷‍♂️ Thankfully I grew up relatively soon after.
every 17-year-old boy who reads The Fountainhead will follow one of three paths: Eliezer Yudkowsky, Ron Paul, or growing the fuck up
As a former pretentious little shit who grew out of it, rationalists (et al) annoy the piss out of me because they are adults with the mentality of tweens - they are somehow still convinced they are the greatest geniuses who have ever walked the earth.

It is the worldview of an arrogant baby.

AI critics: This is a theft machine for lazy turds with no imagination

AI Stans: This is the greatest, most powerful tech in history. It is not a theft machine. There are no original thoughts anymore

People Who Created AI: This is a theft machine for lazy turds with no imagination
OpenAI and Microsoft admitted LLMs are predatory tech built on “an astonishing theft of unprecedented proportions,” and the “largest theft of labor in human history.” An internal Microsoft document said AI has created a “doom loop” that is killing “the entire web.” www.404media.co/doom-loop-op...

Our economy is no more than a brew of the AI bubble, gambling, and scams. Get under that layer and it's just a continuous flow of wealth from the 99% to the 1%, justified by the "line go up" fetishization of shareholder value. I'm just a simple country doctor, but this seems bad.

not lost on a lot of us that someone got ejected from a game because of a hat that wasn’t violating any MLB rules while multiple Giants earlier this year did violate written MLB rules pertaining to uniforms and were allowed to stay in the game (and received zero discipline from the league later)

Hi, I'm Roger Estrada, I deliver books and stuff for a city's library system.

I LOVE the squeal of feedback that starts in the Jesus and Mary Chain's "You Trip Me Up" as Jim Reid intones "when I've annoyed you."

Would you like to introduce yourself with a small song moment you like?
Hi, I’m Saeed Jones, I write poetry and creative nonfiction and teach in Cambridge.

In her duet with Donna Summer for “No More Tears” I love the long note Streisand holds on “tear” when the song goes from ballad to disco

Hi, I'm John Moe, a writer and podcast maker in Saint Paul. I am married with three mostly grown kids and two nice dogs.

I like in "Misunderstood" when Tweedy throws in extra syllables on "Take the guitar player for a ride".

‘Polarization’ has become the master concept for diagnosing our current democratic crisis.

But this is not polarization. It is the radicalization of the political right.

By misdiagnosing it, we risk becoming complicit in the crisis. 🧵
