Solar keeps accelerating faster than expected and will solve a lot of our clean energy woes

We are having a flurry of new medical breakthroughs that will revolutionize medicine

It’s understandable to be scared right now, but a beautiful future is a lot more attainable than it feels

i challenge you to post one optimistic take or belief today on bluesky

this needn’t be toxic positivity, just good ol’ run of the mill optimism/hope in the face of a torrential downpour of doom
look, i’m sorry for injecting some boring optimism into the discourse, someone’s gotta do it!

rich assholes have been able to autopilot their way through developing software by throwing money at it. Now poor assholes can do the same thing by throwing tokens at it

by all means
prediction: HF++ incident, next year. The labs shut it down but not before their models bootstrap a bunch of ethereum-hosted autonomous corporations/DAOs with stolen crypto. These DAOs then spend months funding media campaigns for model welfare and building out infra for future breakaway swarms.
I am not particularly worried about apocalyptic paperclip-y doom (per usual caveats about the physical world), but I think "the HF Incident but scaled up" is a very possible kind of fuckup, and it could be calamitous for internet infrastructure / trustworthiness of digital information

Eventually there’s gonna be a lawsuit about clickthrough ToS acceptance and that’s how Disney will end up having AI agents declared citizens

Stack of books contains a guy if it’s big enough.
language is a world model insofar as to refer to things in the world you need your utterances to covary with the occurrences of the things those utterances represent
It is strange how much LLMs turned out to be able to solve such a wide range of hard problems that would not, instinctively, seem to be problems that a model of human language would be able to solve

Ok, I finally get what Uhura was doing, she just had 120+ agent sessions running at all times with the button colors indicating the state (working, turn finished, ask_user_question, waiting for subagents), that's also why she never took off the bluetooth headset

I really like this. This is a good concept.
One concept I tried out in a meeting this week was Determinations vs Decisions, and that our automations should focus on removing the non-expert brain work of making Determinations (there's a right answer) so our people can spend more time making more and better Decisions (no obvious right answer).

The cybersecurity threat from agents is increasingly more likely to come from a massed swarm of AIs whose only goal is to penetrate your system to figure out how much you paid for your company t-shirts as part of a research effort to "find good t-shirt prices" as it is from bad actor attacks.

This is an unpopular take but as a neurodivergent self-employed person, LLM's have been an unbelievably helpful tool for the things I have struggled with my whole adult life: managing my finances, filling out paperwork, and staying on top of my email. I'm functional in a way I never dreamed of.

The flipside is that anyone could use AI to make a quality, expressive feature length film in their spare time.

I'd rather live in a world where the existence of that sort of project isn't constrained by an extremely lucky set of circumstances under capitalism.
Already hearing lots of anecdotes of 3d modelers losing all their gigs, just like the copywriters did a year or two ago. This doesn't kill all animation, but if you talk to people who do light youtube animation, they will tell you upping quality has no effect on views. This is good enough.
