you: please act normal you need these people to like you

me: ok!

people: hi

me: Space toilets are incredibly complex, break often, and require training to use and maintain - the ISS toilet trainer has a camera in the bowl so astronauts can practice “docking”! Apollo astronauts pooped in bags!

me: Im quite serious when I say that I want to orbit and probe Uranus! It’s a type of planet we’ve never properly explored before, yet it’s the commonest type of planet in exoplanetary systems. And it has 5 round moons

TIL that this recurring TNG minor character was played by a stealth trans woman

she’s in 43 episodes and several of the movies
FIRSTLY as the piece alludes: Loren Rex Cameron’s also-trans and arguably more famous older sister, Cameron, was a I believe fully stealth working model and actress (a la plot of Pose) in the 80s and 90s mostly … I rewatched like I dunno, dozens of TNG episodes, where she appeared as Ensign Kellogg:

They could have simply read Mary Wollstonecraft:

"But, the welfare of society is not built on extraordinary exertions; and were it more reasonably organized, there would be still less need of great abilities, or heroic virtues."

Damn this thread GOES PLACES. Reskeeting for the Star Trek, Jack Parsons, and trans history alone:
Gonna do a thread of cutting room floor stuff re: my new Loren Rex Cameron feature …

i agree with the key point here and will add to it that there IS a reward, it’s knowing you did one right thing instead of walking around plagued by the nameless shame that afflicts all men who are determined to live the most frictionless lives possible
i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

It’s honestly not even that amazing of an achievement.

It took Starship 14 flights to accomplish the bare minimum expected of a launch vehicle, and even then it’s not exactly been a smooth flight.
SpaceX just launched the 14th Starship test flight, and it's now successfully in orbit for the first time.

This is an amazing achievement, and I absolutely detest how Musk has ruined this sort of thing both for me and for humanity.

“While it’s obvious to energy researchers, I don’t think the public grasps the scale of the change in California.”

This a great run down of what’s happening in CA, a large, complex state. There are always complaints, but the article does a good job of detailing many shifts together.
California is weaning itself off fossil gas, fast. Gas-fired electricity generation in California fell by 26% in the first half of 2026, as utility-scale solar, batteries and the new SunZia wind project feed power in via a dedicated transmission line. buff.ly/QWQoLPc
