46 years, one child, and an awakening: we can't keep doing the same shit and expect to survive. So our little family's doing things differently instead. A quiet resistance.

The failure to change course has to do with power and its misuse, with ideas, supremacies, with disconnection from life and living systems, with trauma, and with incentives that are shaped from those wounds and misunderstandings.

Bring it on. But have we got the politicians big enough to withstand the political pressure?

*LAUGHS IN U-TURN*

How do we *make* them ban the production of PFAS?
European water utilities say it's incredibly hard to remove PFAS once it's in the environment & the course has to be stopping production.

There are promising remediation techniques but, even if we halt production today, the cost of the clean up will likely be huge.

Toby Perkins, MP, Chair of the Environmental Audit Committee, was on Radio 4 last night to discuss our findings about PFAS in people's blood in Lancashire.

Here, he outlines the sort of PFAS regs he'd like to see in the UK - somewhat akin to the proposed ban on non-essential PFAS use in the EU 👇🏾

None of those egos that thought these companies' products were a great addition to government processes are about to fall on their swords and admit they were wrong.
The easiest way to fix this is to immediately terminate all contracts and ban it in the respective countries, no business, no money, no access, ever again.

Prosecute those responsible for actioning it with extreme prejudice.

If it happens again bring charges of international espionage against him.

I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).
I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

Problem with this idea is that we don't have to consider how to #slowdown and change the way we do things in Western society.
At the moment we have no real idea how to scale up carbon removal--it's a hair on the mole of the ugly backside of the global hydrocarbon industry

But we do know how to scale up solar panels and wind turbines and batteries. So that's our job

This process also well described by Sellafield which recently applied for a licence to extract water from a hole they were digging next to the UK's most contaminated building, and then, during a judicial review process, announced they no longer needed the licence as they'd already done the job!
Officially, the water industry in England is regulated. Practically, it's unregulated. There's no difference between what it does under the eye of the Environment Agency and what it would do if the EA did not exist. The EA is completely useless, by design. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Seeing this right across the board. Financialisation, and false promises of solutions to waste that are really just excuses enabling industry to keep making more waste, sucking up public money, & handing out construction jobs

2/7 We support Monbiot’s central point.

UK carbon capture is not chiefly about cleaning up unavoidable industrial emissions. It is being used to justify a major new expansion of fossil-fuel infrastructure, underwritten by decades of public subsidy - when it is not needed.

So, AI writing has another tell.

It's the use of the words 'lands' or 'landed' in the context of learning something new, or realising something.

E.g.
The final call is still yours. But "let's try this" lands differently than "no," even when the answer is pretty close.
