Libraries PAY US! This is A GOOD THING!

Please use your library often, and with gusto - and don't be afraid to request a title you fancy if you don't see it on the shelf!
Libraries BUY books. Unlike tech companies wot steal them. Also: PLR! The Public Lending Right scheme meaans authors in the uk and ireland and a few other places get money for each library loan!
If you genuinely believe that libraries negatively impact book sales, I don't even know what to say to you.

Illustrations in novels should come back. Adults like pictures, too! A few older books I have contain wonderful woodcuts or inked drawings. I think they enhance the experience. Not necessary, but classy.

I haven't been feeling well this week but I think a weekend spent cozied up with a bakery-scented candle and a box of pastries and a stack of paperbacks to read in bed while I design cover art for books I haven't finished writing yet might fix me.

My mom emailed chatting about her latest academic research, in the course of which she had ended up on something called Grokipedia, which she'd never heard of, offering new-to-her info in her field of study. She said she needed to confirm it, but still.

I emailed back blaring red klaxons.

Crucially for many, this includes an answer to "I am not a US resident and I don’t have a US SSN or taxpayer number as demanded, what shall I do?"
We are receiving a number of enquiries about Anthropic settlement notices which have recently been sent out. Our Advisory team has put together a Q&A article to address some of the most frequently asked questions: buff.ly/y0VDZZW

Libraries have done more for authors than any other singular entity. They are a VITAL piece of the publishing industry.

Also, poor people deserve access to books.

Non-US writers, I checked with the Anthropic settlement folks and we do need to file W-8 BEN forms to avoid IRS tax withholding. Thanks to the nice helpline people for the response. Here is the form: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/...

I think we’re gonna see a continued hunger for cozy, especially in unique genres, and several editors have asked me for dystopian books (in kids and adult!) lately.

Also horror, cause I don’t think the supply can meet the demand. I think it’s the hardest thing to write. #AskDV
#askDV what do you predict publishing will REALLY be hungry to acquire in 2027? thanks for participating!! 🥰

The world has enough heavy news, here's some light stuff:

Scientists have confirmed the existence of a species of wild cats previously only known to locals of Bolivia. It is *smaller* than a house cat and its closest living relative diverged 1.4 million years ago. It's called a Tilcayo.

Apt description. Continuing w the Ukraine analogy, Americans should note that he is speaking for a large majority of Canadians (70-85%) not for his party or elites or whatever. It’d be ironic/stupid if Americans, like Ru, delude themselves “true Canadians” don’t mind being taken by the US.
One thing I did come away with is that while doubtless considerably more aware of Canadian wrath than Americans seem to be, I definitely underestimated it myself.

If asked to describe in one word the vibe off Carney's choice of words, I think I'd have to go with: Ukrainian.

Canada *means* it.

The line about "not a third bloc only to become a third party rival just with better manners", following up with "resilience so no-one, *no-one* can control our open markets, impair our sovereignty, threaten out territorial integrity or undermine our freedoms, our democracy, our rule of law" - OUCH.
