Did you know that the term “Jiggs Dinner” is derived from a comic strip, because it’s the favored meal of a certain comic strip character I wrote about last month? Neither did I, because I had never heard of it before I wrote that other post. Read about it on the blog:

Hummingbirds.

"Bugs" by Irving Knickerbocker, 1924-1927
December 26th, 1925 as seen in the Sacramento Bee
Comic strip "Bugs." Gags about radios. A man buys a radio for four hundred dollars, but can't pick up any stations. A neighbor lets him come over to listen to his radio, which turns out to be a custom job attached to a giant battery, capable of getting stations all the way from Peru. Strip originated by Roy Grove, and also worked on by Charles D. Small, George Swanson, Sefcik and Don Wootton.
