This is tangential to the valid, well-articulated point being made here, but I don't really respect the recontextualization that some people twist themselves into to argue for (or sometimes against) older media.

2. I didn’t use a map and I was 12.
3. You can draw your OWN map.
4. I still find it very fun and clearly considering its success to fund more Metroid, many others did.

I still strongly recommend A Monster's Expedition. Far and above my favorite Draknek game. The writing is charming and the puzzles are incredibly creative.

I'm just grateful I grew up well-adjusted enough to not have to workshop the most milquetoast critique of (popular thing) every time people seem excited about something.

A question for my DOOM knowers: are there any no-combat adventure games built in the DOOM engine? Aesthetically, I think that would be a mashup of styles that I would love to play.

The reason I know I'm neurotypical is because whenever I go into a new room, I imagine how an object would bounce around the room like a DVD logo, off of walls and furniture. When I daydream, I do the same with rooms I remember from my childhood. This is a thing that we all do, which is normal.
