Things have been shit but old carers have come back to help because social work were literally leaving me to die. My physical health has gone downhill so fast. District nurses want to start me on new meds but can’t without care in place. I don’t know how much longer I can go on like this

When people say, "Autistic people do (insert "challenging" behaviour X) because of their autism", they really mean "I don't know why they do it".

Autistic people have sensory, emotional or physiological reason(s) for doing this.

Find out what they are.

AUTISM ISN'T A REASON.

The GP did a home visit for my eye the other day and they think its just from concussion and nothing more serious which is good. When they were doing checks they said my temp was high and they think I’ve got an infection. Can’t seem to get a break. I feel rubbish and I’ve been sleeping all the time

TW self harm?
I banged my head last week and since then I haven’t been able to see out my right eye properly. Everything is blurry and weird. I don’t know if it’s worth doing an econsult because I have no way to see my GP without support. I’m not sure what to do

Being autistic for me means I don't always process my emotions like others.

Sometimes I'm angry or sad for what feels like no reason. I know it's not for no reason, but I often don't know or find out what caused it.

Ended up detained again. I’m back home now. I was in a&e for almost 2 days which is such a waste of resources when if I just had care in place I wouldn’t have needed to go. I’m exhausted from all of this. What is it going to take for me to get care in place??

I applied for help with my heating earlier in the year through a website called lightning reach and I got so many free things from it. I got draft excluders, lightbulbs, hot water bottles, a flask, a huge electric blanket and loads more. I thought I’d share incase anyone else wants to apply

Got detained yesterday for not taking my meds even though I can’t take them without carers? I ended up spending the whole day and night in a&e to only get 1 dose of my medication and then sent home. Back to no meds and I’m now too scared to ask anyone about it incase this happens again

Old carers stocked me up on banana milkshakes that should last a while. No idea what to do about meds. I cant function without them and last time I ended up in hospital because of having none. I think I’ll email my social worker about respite care to see if that’s an option

🧵 CW: Suicide, iatrogenic harm

In January 2024 I shared a questionnaire on twitter, asking people about their experiences of making a complaint to NHS mental health services. Its taken me a while to write up, but its finally published here.

The meeting was frustrating. No care will be in place because none can be found. I get that but it’s still not ok. Social worker told me to “manage through it” so I asked her if she had ever been in meds withdrawal or been left in so much pain you can’t move. She didn’t have an answer to that

Re: "profound autism"

The reason we stopped using functioning levels in autism years ago is not because all autistic people are the same and need the same support.

It's because the labels severe/mild/high/low are simplistic to the point of being meaningless, given the diversity of autistic people.

Old carers said they’re going to stop helping from Sunday. They feel like the longer they help out the longer social work will refuse to get help in. They’re coming to a meeting I have with my new social worker tomorrow to speak about it

I feel like no one wants me. Previous care company said they couldn’t meet my needs, all the ones before that couldn’t meet my needs and now more places are rejecting my housing applications because they can’t meet my needs. I hate being disabled. I hate needing support to stay alive
