If you ever wondered why visible light is those particular wavelengths, it's because life evolved to see in the narrow range where water is transparent

Working on my custom #FreeCAD workbench. It's for fully parametric design of traditional timber frame joinery and structures. I'm no expert on carpentry, FreeCAD, or coding, but this is a great way to learn all three!

These tiny white mushrooms were out in force on the forest floor, but this one caught my eye almost literally. Emerging from a twig the size of a match stick at eye-level. Audra State Park in West Virginia. #fungifriends #hotsticksaturday

I went on a great mushroom hike today in Audra State Park in West Virginia. Found this cute little Viscid Violet Cort, which I had never seen before. #fungifriends #mycology #mushroom #nature #photograpgy

I love Kagi. It might be the best online subscription I have. Image search without slop, product search without ads or paid placement. I can completely block Temu. It's a legitimately great search experience.

All the obviously AI-generated anti-AI memes in my feed... Can people not tell? Is it a bit? Are those accounts actually just bots clumsily trying to fit in?

![Comic. [Person and person with white hat facing two boxes stacked with $80 price tag and sale tag on each box.] PERSON 1: They want $80 for this? I could make one myself for $10 in parts, an hour of work, a trip to the hardware store, another $30 in parts, another few hours of work, two more trips to the store for $20 more in parts, another hour of work to redo the first hour of work because I messed up, and $80 to buy this when the one I made breaks.](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:cz73r7iyiqn26upot4jtjdhk/bafkreifdsd32pjwefxji33c5eferlek4o6kkadoosqisb5uatqjmrq4q4q)

Some of the best upbeat instrumental #music to work to, or just chill and listen. Ronald Jenkees is a delightful virtuoso who shares his longform improvisational performances on YouTube, but also has 5 albums available on streaming. Brings a smile to my face every time.

Rockefeller Center has some cool #art and #architecture. Some of the most famous in #NYC. But I think my favorite bit is this mural above the front desk of Abraham Lincoln and some giants building a thing.

This is the Ludovisi sarcophagus (mid-3rd AD). It absolutely writhes, hums and bursts with energy and movement. It reminds me of Tacitus’ famous phrase about the Romans: “they create a wasteland & call it peace.”

I want to slow down a bit and #design some #analog stuff. All these components are cheap and available. You can understand how it works with a 1-page sketch, no code required.

My broken waffle maker taught a master class in analog design - informal
When I took my waffle maker apart, what I found inside was a reminder of something we've largely forgotten in the age of microcontrollers.
