Unconditional basic income, especially with how things have gone and continue to go, is like drawing a line in the sand for each other.

Every child is born needing the same things: air, water, land, and people willing to keep them safe. None of it is earned, it's owed just by existing. Somewhere along the way, air stayed free, but land got fenced off, and safety became conditional, and even then, only certain work gets rewarded.

Some argue basic income will lead to socialism. But interest in socialism is already growing, and it comes from the economic conditions people live in now, not from a policy that hasn't passed.
Basic income is simply a way to recognize the wealth we all help create.

Agreed. And beyond a living wage, we need a basic income too. Not everyone has a paycheck: caregivers, students, people between jobs. A floor under everyone means rent and groceries don't depend on having a job. It also gives workers the power to say no to poverty wages, which pushes pay up.
I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽♀️

No one builds wealth alone. Workers, infrastructure, customers, and public systems all contribute. If every worker vanished tomorrow, no fortune would keep running. We're not just individuals competing for property, we're shareholders in the wealth we all help create together. So, UBI is your share.

The single biggest thing that changes a basic income conversation: stop explaining it. Ask the other person to define it first.
When aid depends on proving you're sick enough, some learn to perform it, and administrators learn to doubt everyone. Honest people get caught in that cycle, forced to justify real pain.
Basic income breaks the loop. No means test means no incentive to perform, and no reason to doubt. Just support.

In 1797, Thomas Paine proposed a national fund to pay every person compensation for the natural inheritance lost when land became private property. That's basic income, two centuries before the term existed.

The biggest obstacle isn't funding or politics, it's us. A global network of advocates organizing, mobilizing, and taking action together. If we can't do that, nothing else matters.
