Why would George Lucas do this to George Lucas?

This is genuinely really lovely but also they’re playing the wrong theme????
The Band of the Grenadier Guards performs the iconic Star Trek theme at Buckingham Palace in honour of Sir Patrick Stewart, following the sad news of his passing.

Queen Elizabeth II knighted Sir Patrick Stewart in 2010, recognising his outstanding contribution to drama and the arts

New from me: domestic discretionary funding has fallen dramatically in the last few years, far more than most people have internalized.

These cuts are roughly two-thirds the size of the Medicaid cuts enacted in the Big Beautiful Bill.

As a % of GDP, it's at the lowest level since Eisenhower.

I have spent literally hundreds of hours down rabbit holes for my paper coming out tomorrow to make all the numbers comparable over time, so as my oomf is it your duty to read it.

The paper highlights how much domestic discretionary funding has been cut recently, leaving the country worse off.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.

Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Shitposting aside, it cannot be overstated how much red tape Republicans added to the process of getting Medicaid and SNAP.

Millions of people who literally qualify for these programs are being kicked off them, despite qualifying, because of all the red tape Grassley voted to add to them.
Unfortunately Republicans hv been even harder @ work raising costs+ making life harder for Americans They hv already increased gas prices and imposed tariffs and cut Medicaid and SNAP Grassley helped each step along the way

JUST POSTED: Today at The NYT we are publishing a major investigation into how President Trump used his executive powers to expose millions of Americans to greater cancer risks.

A six month-long investigation built on more than 10,000 pages of FOIA records. Read it

How Trump Gave the Worst Polluters a Free Pass (Gift Article)
The president temporarily waived clean-air rules for industrial facilities that spew cancer-causing gases. Then his appointees worked to gut the regulations altogether.

I really recommend all people who care about hunger in American follow Katie. She's the first person I go to when I have questions and want to make sure I'm understanding things right.
About 2 million kids have lost SNAP since deep cuts were enacted last year. The ripple effects: Kids losing SNAP also lose automatic enrollment for free meals at school. And as more kids lose SNAP, their schools may be forced to drop Community Eligibility.
As SNAP rolls shrink, free school lunches disappear
Enrollment in the nutrition assistance program dropped following last year’s sweeping GOP tax bill. Fewer children and schools now qualify for free school meals.

Surprising that the president who tried to end American democracy and stay in power even though he lost is queuing up additional ways to try to end democracy in America
This bullshit complaint by DOJ trying to get Alaska to toss out the result of the senate election is a Stan Woodward joint, obviously.

Great graph here 😏
Instead, policymakers enacted temporary tax cuts under Bush, made them permanent under Obama, enacted temporary tax cuts under Trump 1, and then made them permanent/enacted new temporary tax cuts under Trump 2.

If we hadn’t cut taxes, debt would be lower and stable.

These are in my opinion the most important graphs in Brendan's new (phenomenal) paper (that you should read).

The United States is a very rich nation. But those riches don't redound to our poorest citizens. We must address that.
The U.S. is the world’s richest large country. We rank high on GDP per person, and typical U.S. HH has the 2nd highest income in world

But people w/ low incomes don’t share in that prosperity—their incomes are as low or lower than people in countries less wealthy than us.

We used to have a federal survey that measured hunger in America, but the Trump administration stopped conducting the survey right after the bill that cut food assistance was passed.
We are seeing a hunger disaster unrolling before our eyes.

Since Republicans passed the Big Beautiful Bill, 2 million kids have lost food assistance.

These are by far the deepest SNAP cuts in history, and each month, we find out it’s even worse than we thought. The worst is yet to come.
In the wake of unprecedented cuts in last year's Republican reconciliation law, SNAP participation & spending have been falling — and the decline is much deeper than the Congressional Budget Office initially projected. www.cbpp.org/blog/congres...

The same people who insist on policing public bathrooms in order to protect girls from sexual predators are now calling a child rape victim, whose mother lost custody due to that abuse, a liar. loathsome
Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"
