Primetime was so, so good. Pattinson is incredible. Nails the grotesque barbarism of the time, beautiful movie. Going to be doing his Chris Hanson voice to myself all week

Recently unearthed records show that, in one set of trials carried out by the US Army, the electric shock gloves caused “overwhelmingly immediate” pain to soldiers in a mock forced cell extraction scenario, who then reported that “just seeing the glove” frightened them into obedience.
Study: Shock gloves traumatized Army volunteers
After tests, military personnel said "just seeing the glove" that ICE plans to adopt scared them into obedience.

Today we got access to a smoking gun document from ICE that shows how it is weaponized against progressive groups registering voters while building a voter suppression database.

Of a piece with the news that elite universities purposefully exclude qualified women both at the admissions level and by facilitating gender terrorism against them once they are admitted, understanding that many will drop out.

Rape is punishment for women's ambition.

bsky.app/profile/ebha...
The frequency of campus rapes, & their role in getting women to drop out of college, could be regarded as a 2nd stage in a process that starts by making it nearly twice as hard for qualified women to gain university admission compared to men. Excluding women from upward mobility is a policy choice.

Absolutely super hot, so she’s out after sunset. Also she’s campaigning in a part of the county that is unincorporated - so policing by sheriff’s dept 😬

This story almost broke me. Today's class topic was the rise of extreme political masculinity (manosphere, testosterone, etc) and we included rape and violence against women in politics as a clear consequence.

Also that 'embarrassed' thing seems like a crummy mischaracterization that doesn't address having a concussion and other injuries and presumably trauma.

She was knocked unconscious, battered, raped, while fixing a campaign sign. There's a climate factor: she did the work on her signs late at night because of the extreme heat.

But also she was trying to be a citizen, a voice, a participant in public life, a person with agency, and a man turned her into an unconscious object to be abused at will. He violently denied her rights, her voice, her humanity even as she was trying to be all those things.

Part (but far from all) of what's horrific here is: a woman weighing the consequences of speaking up about being sexually assaulted, because speaking up imposes burdens and costs (and so does not speaking up).
Congressional candidate is raped while repairing her campaign signs
Embarrassed, she initially didn’t want to report attack. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office's investigation is ongoing. A Phoenix New Times exclusive.
