Also - I don't look forward to the end of shared culture. One of the joys is experiencing something others experience and talking about it afterwards.
I genuinely mean this. I cannot imagine a more bleak dystopian notion than the idea of all art being turned into slop designed to coddle my exact perceived intentions.

The point of literature, film, music, and art is to be exposed to the interior lives of others. Who are these people.
maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

Bluefin tuna have returned in huge numbers off the British coast after almost disappearing from UK waters.

The return of the giant fish is one of several wildlife recoveries highlighted in a major new report from WWF, which it says shows conservation can work.

Hilariously much of what we consider 'Americana' came from German immigrants in the mid-1800s. Hot dogs, beer, Christmas trees, hamburgers...but they also brought abolitionism with them so Elon's gotta get the calipers out...

I note Putin’s Puppets aren’t claiming East Prussia (now Kaliningrad Oblast) for their Nazi Lebensraum project.
AfD Youth is posting about unification of German people. Belive them, when they say who they are. Not far right, not nazi like but actually exactly like nazis.

P.S And yes, they are Putins favorite party in Germany

Putin apologists want you to buy that:

-An alleged off-the-books 1991 verbal promise outweighs a signed 1994 treaty

-Democratic countries formerly occupied by Russia asked to join an anti-Russia alliance for no reason

-Ukrainians don't want freedom, an American tricked them into it with cookies

this is exactly my opinion. there may be a superstrate of extremely difficult and unique safety problems around AI, but the substrate is simply that no one takes basic precautions seriously becasue they imagine (or pretend to imaigne) that it is futile, and basic precautions slow down launches.
this is by far the best "I quit my AI job over safety concerns" essay yet because it is the first one that is able to talk about safety concerns in practical terms and that understands "safety" as a topic with extensive literature in analogous fields www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

The behaviour of the Trump administration in Europe has been summed up in one quote from a Wall Street Journal article.

My take:
“We can do that to any country we want. We can do that here.”
Explosive revelations about Trump’s ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle in the Wall Street Journal show the extent of the White House’s mafia-like extortion racket in Europe.
