people say "building codes are written in blood", but here are code officials writing from their personal sense of neighborhood character

maybe we don't actually owe them utter deference!
It is that "four dwelling units of 1,500 square feet each would be reasonably consistent with affordable housing. Likewise, 6,000 square feet is a reasonable limit for a multifamily building that would not be out of place in a residential neighborhood or infill housing."

Purely zoning reasoning!

But holy shit the soundtrack is _amazing_.

Thread. I love books. My dad was a bookseller. But real talk: these are mass produced consumer products with a limited useful lifespan, and I can’t think of any other thing in that category that people get so fucking _weird_ about. They aren’t the Bayeux Tapestries. Let librarians do their damn job.
Ok this is my “THEY’RE THROWING AWAY THE BOOKS” response thread and I’m never doing this again no matter how frequently this comes up 🧵

The biggest thing you should know when people freak out about libraries getting rid of books is: yes, the librarians have thought of that. You undoubtedly have expertise in your specific job or field, and so do the librarians. Librarians have communities of theory and practice, and also, constraints

some of the ballot initiatives this election cycle are specifically about getting rid of overlapping layers of regulation that bottleneck various projects. I don't think they tackle this specific issue head on, but 4 in particular starts to streamline building permitting

I have YIMBY planner friends who swear up and down that these views are anything but hegemonic in planning but they’re not. The planning profession by-and-large believes the San Francisco model works. It’s near a consensus position.
Boston’s chief planner is a true believer in the San Francisco model, in which you make it impossible to profitably build apartments by-right so developers are forced into a politicized discretionary negotiation with the city, which relaxes the rules in exchange for below-market units.

Coyote vs Acme would never have worked without Bauza, who may be the only non-Mel-Blanc voice for the Looney Tunes characters who didn't sound like he was broadcasting directly from the uncanny valley. RIP to a great, taken far too young.
I am devastated to learn that Eric Bauza has died. I just spoke with him a couple months ago and I cannot express how joyous it was to have *the Looney Tunes* speaking to *me* and I also cannot express how much it was clear doing the voices brought Bauza joy. www.vulture.com/article/eric...

Please stop with the 'generic Dem ballot' polling hopium. I've had my heart broken too many times to believe the polls anymore.

Remember: people don't vote for the generic ballot. They vote for actual candidates.

Put your heads down and get out the vote. Nothing is promised, nothing is certain.
