Eliezer Yudkowsky did quite literally come out and say that he wrote Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality as a "good way to recruit International Mathematical Olympiadists" (who are teenagers, a group that, in 2010, one could safely assume had read Harry Potter).

Being chronically ill and homeless feels like it’s a death sentence. I’ll be very surprised if I make it to my 50th birthday next year I’m so very tired but I can’t get any good sleep and all I do is bleed. Because my disability got denied.

well, see... @ryannorth.ca has a point. Toronto is a city worth preserving for all time.
