People who aren’t using AI to code at this point are delusional or lying, trying to ride a horse down the highway and backing up the traffic instead of asking “what can we do to make cars safer and electric.” They have no ethical high ground

One thing #floydfest has taught me over the years is that genre in music is a lot like medium in visual arts. You can express all the feelings in rock, country, bluegrass, blues, metal, etc as if they are watercolor or oil or marble or chalk.

I try so hard to cultivate summoning the words "so what do you think you'll do about that?" It's very hard to unlearn your own expectation of having an immediate answer for anything your kid throws at you but seeing how they work through challenges themselves is priceless and, after all, is THE JOB
Put differently: Once your kid gets (roughly) two-thirds of the way to 18, a lot of parenting is best done as backwards planning. At that point, you have six years to give them enough responsibility/accountability that they'll be ready to live independent lives + be someone's roommate.

Maybe an underappreciated additional harm that monopolistic, enshittified platforms inflict: they give many people the impression that this is the *only possible* version of that type of system.
More broadly, are you aware that there is an entire field of people who are professionals in the practice of understanding how social networks function, and how to design them for social good? That *most* social platforms are healthy — the giant fascist networks are the dangerous exception?

This is so funny to me bc I grew up near Philly (West Chester) and even though I can get Tastycakes at the local grocery chain in Charlotte, NC I refuse to b/c my heart says Tastycakes are not authentic unless you buy them at Wawa

I find GIMP hard to use. It's not a diss on GIMP, and I'm pretty good at most normal life skills. It's a very full featured image manipulation program and I use it about once every 3 months. Yes it's mostly clicking on pictures but there are a lot of them and their behavior is not always obvious.
if you find GIMP hard to use you probably shouldn't be allowed to drive a car or shop at a grocery store. it's literally just buttons with pictures on them that do the things the pictures represent. you don't even need to be able to read.
