I'm glad to know that my research "resonates" with so many chatbots applying to graduate school this cycle.

(that's a clue, y'all. truly you're not fooling anyone with the AI)

Some time back, I sat down with Good Housekeeping to talk through some of the state-of-the-research around a question that so many parents ask: "Is it okay that my kid(s) play video games?"

The answer is "Yup." Read the article for more!

The Research-Backed Reasons I'm Fine With My Kid Playing Video Games
We should be looking at video games as something that’s actually good for our kids.

Dear *all students looking to learn about graduate programs* - you really, really, really have to stop using AI to generate your "email where I ask questions about your program."

It's a bad first look ... and it make me want to have my robot answer your robot.

Just talk to us.

Seriously y'all can we just quit with the robot-writing? As a journal editor, you're taking *so much of the joy* out of reading human science. You've smoothed it out into a series of banal and often inaccurate claims.

So rarely do I read a paper with AI content that is very good, in any event. =/

It's that time of year when all of the chatbots reach out to PhD programs to learn how to earn their PhDs.

Imagine being the author of the worst take on AI yet published by Nature.
When AI writes the words, who is the author?
After an AI detector classified one of my opinion pieces as entirely AI-generated, I found myself questioning where authorship ends, where expertise begins and what readers deserve to know.

I am pretty sure we will all move to zenodo. You can create github releases that end up there. It has a great API. And it is hosted by CERN, for whom storing all data the rest of science produces is small potatoes.

With OSF closing up this semester (to new projects), where else are folks hosting their open science documents and such? I'd come to rely on them for nearly every project in the last several years. 🫠

Still remembering when an editor desk-rejected my experimental design b/c of qualitative DV. Said it's "only descriptive and can't tell us anything about the IV."

Hrm.

So, N = 20 people & I kick 10 of them in the shins via random assignment. I bet I can predict which ones will be mad at me. ;p

Attending @aejmc.bsky.social today? Our editor @bowmanspartan.bsky.social will be part of a panel of editors with a spicy topic, "Demystifying Journal Submissions." It's at 1:15 in Balcony J of the conference venue (4th Floor), and he's around before and afterwards.

Let's offer some clarity here.

Today, I attended Bhattacharya's "Scientific Freedom" lecture with Carole Hooven on the "reality" of human sex differences. Knowing the premise of the lecture series & Carole Hooven's prior writing, I had low expectations for the scientific quality of the lecture.

It was worse than I expected. 🧵
