New Cretaceous bird reported from Australia, Tenuicruris piscanexum! I was hoping my coauthors' & my 2023 study reporting a variety of Early Cretaceous bird tracks in Australia would be followed by bird body-fossil discoveries reflecting that diversity. 🧪🪨🐦🇦🇺

Out today: We show that Westlothiana lizziae or "Lizzie," described 35 years ago as the world's oldest reptile - is not a stem amniote at all, but a stem tetrapod.

For #fossilfriday the weird extra osteoderms in the second cervical ring of _Edmontonia_ AMNH 5665. These extra osteoderms nearly close the ring ventrally and are unique to this specimen among ankylosaurs. The specimen can be viewed in 3d here t.co/ORvOrpCTIE

A daily reminder that significant specimens are constantly being illegally trafficked. Right now, on eBay and various auction sites, one can find Chinese paravians and psittacosaurs, Burmese paravians, teeth and bones from Niger, and-in this instance-part of a Spicomellus

Maybe a bit late for web timing, but ehy, NEW PAPER ON #fossilfriday!!!

I am proud to present you Haolong dongi gen. nov. sp. nov., a new hadrosauroid from the Early Cretaceous of China!
The specimen, almost complete, is a juvenile iguanodontian from the Yixian Formation of the Barremian (125 Mya).

Really taken with Haolong dongi, out today from Jiandong Huang, Pascal Godefroit and team. Just submitted news article on it. An iguanodontian with abundant hollow spikes across the neck and body, projecting from among conventional basement scales, and with rows of plate-like scales along the tail.

A little #FossilFriday mystery from the Hell Creek for you other experts. I found this in a bunch of pieces trailing down the outcrop. What is it? Smooth on the underside, horns. Sutures?

Definitely not Pachycephalosaurus, can't place it on a ceratopsian either. 🦕🧪
