Bluesky is that special place where someone will take time out from serialposting about how ICE can never defeat one mid sized midwesern city to post about how ICE is going to commandeer every voting booth in the US and all is lost

Our founders, though deeply flawed, understood that democracy requires an informed citizenry and a government accountable to it people. That’s why the press is the only profession protected by the Constitution. It’s also why autocrats and oligarchs seek to control and destroy it.

Walking the dogs this afternoon and its 55° out in the Winter that Wasn't. ( Very reminiscent of the winter of 1976-77)

Sometimes you have to say it out loud to appreciate how dire t all is:

The president just openly declared his plans to steal the midterm elections — in an interview with the former number two person at the FBI.
Trump: "These people were brought to our country to vote, & they vote illegally. The Republicans should say, we should take over the voting in at least 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting. We have states that I won that show I didn't win. You're gonna see something in Georgia"

Posting this photo to document the oddest and warmest winter I’ve ever seen here. Today, we are out walking on the Croy Creek road — miles past the Rock Creek turn off. It should be covered with snow in January. Skiing has been excellent on upper half of Baldy, so we’re rolling with it. #dogs.

So-called federal agents standing in the street enforcing local ordinances about pedestrian in the roadway etc is a clue they want this violence. They are creating it. They are killing people to feed their angry supporters & outrage everyone else. That’s it. That’s their point

First day of skiing in the books. I think this is the start of my 62nd year of skiing. Ski resorts out West are hurting for snow and Sun Valley is no different. The only reason we are skiing is because of the man-made snow. #skiing

The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

With no snow on the ground yet, we are still training agility outside. Erik is loving it. Ears up and afterburners on as he soars down the dogwalk!

Mark Kelly: "The message he sent a couple days ago was he declared that loyalty to the Constitution is now punishable by death. Those are serious words coming from the president. He's trying to intimidate us. But I'm not going to be intimidated."

Five corporations control 90% of the US media market.

Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today.

Four giants control 80% of meat processing.

A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry.

The evidence of corporate concentration is everywhere.

I mean, look, I'm not a reporter, so who am I to talk?

But on a day where the president both just called a woman reporter "Piggy" and is celebrating someone who had people bone saw apart one of my colleagues, I might just be a little ready to defend my colleagues and profession.

But that's just me

Oh, I don’t know. Our rivers no longer catch on fire and our air is far less poisonous than it used to be, even in smog bowls like Los Angeles. And I think those are good things.
If there’s no shale gas then there’s no shale gas, but I still think environmentalism is basically bad and politicians should focus more on material prosperity.
