I wrote up my experience of using #uiua for 2024's #AdventOfCode. Many languages could learn a lesson or two from the frankly beautiful developer experience of Uiua's web repl.

It's October, so I'm calling out to all my AI bros, let's crush it this month; make those MVPs, get to market, build the thing.

I'm locked in, are you? #Locktober

evergreen rant:

you don't need a fancy JS heavy site
you don't need react
it's just static content

stick it on a static hosting service (S3 / GH Pages etc) and be done with it

it's 2026, stop overengineering

I was reminded today that JIRA still exists and Atlassian hasn't yet crumbled under the weight of such a dogshit product.

Absence of explicit process is not lack of maturity. In many cases it’s more mature to have less process. Measure on what’s actually achieved. What supports the better outcome?

Referring to what an AI-tool does as "thinking" should warrant a swift kick in the shins.

My friend, it's not thinking, it's doing maths and picking something based on the outcome of those maths.

Hey folks, cross-pollinating between accounts a bit.

I built Cryptick; a site for sharing crossword clues with other people, no accounts needed.

It also contains an RSS feed of cryptic clues, updated daily at cryptick.wildvale.co.uk/feed.xml

Take a look at today's COTD, I'd love feedback!

knowing the time horizon of your code is one of the best (only) ways of estimating the true cost of that code.

How @glenjamin.co.uk put it,

"Software that does what people need it to, and can be continually and efficiently adapted to those needs over time"

"efficiency" seems important to add.

There's relatively little LLM training data for niche languages and this causes poorer coding agent performance. I think this is an existential threat for smaller language communities like OCaml.

My talk at the OCaml workshop gave some actionable steps to mitigate that: toao.com/blog/ai-exis...
