I created a shiny web tool to play around with OL/TWFE so you can teach how this stuff can get so screwy. You can mess with temporal and cohort heterogeneity, treatment timing, whether you have any controls, etc. Share your worst plots! #econsky cannoncloud.shinyapps.io/TWFE_OLS_Pla...

One potential silver lining: net-zero needs ~3x more clean electricity, and the main barriers are permitting, transmission, interconnection, not tech. If AI's capital and urgency fund firm clean power and grids, it could help clean the grid. Behind-the-meter gas, and it won't.

How can governments implement effective—but often unpopular—policies without triggering public backlash?
We investigated whether involving citizens in policymaking can reduce resistance to system-level policies. 🧵

350,000 people. I can't imagine doing this to one person let alone 350,000.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court rules 6-3 in favor of the Trump admin on Temporary Protected Status, blocking the lawsuit on jurisdictional grounds, allowing DHS to strip over 350,000 people of legal status even though they utterly failed to follow the required legal procedures.

@mclem.org Musk is clearly evil, but promoting this study with questionable methods might do science public relations a disservice in the long run. But also maybe not if no one bothers to think about any of it all that hard.
Khanna did not ‘say’ that Musk unleashed mass death. Serious research has documented it. —>

This paper is now out in the Journal of Causal Inference with some updates but the same general message: LLMs were not particularly good at matching expert judgment on whether a given variable pair represented a causal relationship.
