Author, Poet, Novelist. A bit witchy. MOTHTOWN & COMPOSITE CREATURES from Angry Robot, LITTLE QUAKES & BONE OVATION from Valley Press.
Viewers, I bought the hat.

A lush week. Sitting on literary panels, book readings, a jaunt to the @edinburghfringe.bsky.social to discuss some exciting future plans, then birthday shindigs to finish it all off.

Now I'm the overripe banana. Should be writing tonight, but words will likely be mush🍌

I'm anticipating finishing my part in a VERY SPECIAL writing thing this weekend... One that's been an absolute joy of a collaboration. And hopefully, this is only the beginning of its journey🤞🤩🤭

For a last burst of inspo I'm turning to poetry. It never fails to help me see the light💡💭

Anyone else deep-diving into the Greek myths, following The Odyssey? For me it's the aurae, naiads, oceanics, and other nymphs. In particular the oreads - mountain nymphs of caves and stone - one of the most famous being Echo, whose story is tragic no matter which interpretation you prefer.

I did it. I finished the draft! The whole story is there now, rough and ready. A whole new world. And a character I think it's impossible not to love.

Hoping this will be a story that readers will not forget in a hurry💜⏳

I've been hiding my face a bit, but here I am again. Writing has been an escape. My mind is full of moths and roots. Poems and scripts. Goblins and a woodland bog. And finally, my current novel-in-progress. It's a story of time, and relics, and love, and I can't wait to see how it shapes up⌚⌛👴👵🌌💜🔥

Not one to tell people what to do😂, I've just blogged about zero drafts! But what in the world is a zero draft, and why does writing have to be even more complicated than it was before?!

It's not, I promise.

That's my handwriting!
@scribeofhades.bsky.social you really put all sorts of trinkets into this book, it's very neat to discover hidden things

Still find it surreal that my writing is in these!
Thanks man! We thought long and hard about how to do this, and we asked my friend @carolinehardaker.bsky.social to write that poem. She's brilliant. So yes, there's a real living poet in that book. Oh- and that's her handwriting.

My copy arrived, my copy arrived! Can't wait to lose myself in DAYTIDE once more. Couldn't be more proud to have myself immortalised within it's pages with a poem😍✍️

I wrote a thing a while ago that writers say they're finding helpful, so here it is!

"Instead I felt empty, as if something had been scooped out and not replaced. But in that hole something lived and breathed..."

It’s not a plot hole that Elmo has been 3 years old for 50 years. He was bitten by The Count, willingly. Elmo asked for the Dark Gift

Still enjoying my return to journalling this year✍️Somewhere between a sketchbook, scrapbook, and commonplace book, it's 2026 in a nutshell.

'An accurate description of my current WIP plot, 2026'

It's sort of all there, but it's in a right tangle. It all needs teasing out. Sometimes I realise there's a loose end in there, and it needs woven in. But all in all, it's a full story, in the perfect shape of a world💚🌍🩵

Been quite poorly this week. Not had any energy for anything, but I'm finally starting to pick up. Tonight's #onmyreadinglist is dedicated to a little bit of research for the current WIP...
