I should probably point out, I wrote an entire book about this that came out in the pandemic.

At this point, September’s book mail is probably taller than me. Just ordered a collection of Tanith Lee short stories. Wasn’t a huge fan of the one novel I read, so starting from a different point here.

Vastly, yes. I moved away from most fantasy in my 30s. 15 years ago I barely touched short stories out of misguided snobbery, now I prefer short reads.

Today, much to my wallet's chagrin, my tastes are many genres (see profile). Although non-fic is one I still don't invest enough time in.

2026 Game completion 12: Vampire Crawlers

An addictive deck building dungeon crawler which uses the first game’s mechanics really well, but it lacked a lot of depth and variety, as well as content.

Needed more variation in tactics and boss fights. Hopefully it’ll get DLC.

Ordered the paperback editions. That ScifFier code from @scifiscavenger.bsky.social is paying dividends. Well, to him. It's emptying my bank balance after four orders..

This was thrown into one of my feeds today. Still feels like quite the achievement. Hopefully one day it could still find its readers.

I have plans for a new edition of English Eerie. Something I think would be real cool is having horror fiction writers and film-makers write some scenarios.

Fun board games tonight. First plays of Knarr and Point City and ended with the next mission of Zombicide.

Would def play the two new games again.

Fascinating to learn about. And a tempting purchase to add alongside my standard edition.

The Wuthering Heights first published in 1847 isn't quite the version we know today...

Our new facsimile reproduces the first edition, before Charlotte Brontë's later revisions. Here's a closer look at the original and the story behind this new publication 👇

It’s been just under a year since I 100% completed Silksong and I still think it’s a shame it wasn’t Game of the Year.

It built on and surpassed an already spectacular first game in sheer size, narrative, soundtrack, emotion and challenge.

Metroidvanias like this are why I love the genre.

Almost a bust in the bookshops today. Picked up two Anne McCaffrey books though. Mostly because of the word “Dinosaur”..

Re-reading Darrell Schweitzer on the bus into town and u am reminded how ‘Transients’ reads like an episode of the Twilight Zone or Quiet, Please!

A lot of variation in his weird fiction which is great.

Scream at Midnight by Joseph Payne Brennan

On a rec from @crutledge.bsky.social I have ordered a collection of short stories from a Weird Tales writer I'd only come across in a single anthology. I do like discovering a new author from the Weird/ghost story eras.

Now for more lucha libre wrestling. I am rooting for Mexico’s “national hero” (who is actually from Germany), El Grande Americano!

Also rooting for Mr Iguana and a masked wrestler dressed as Skeletor!

A short, but tense story. Not going to lie, I went through the emotions until the big finale here.

Phew!
Toad fell into the pond. He sank to the bottom and came up again.

Ordered a book about Houdini. Also received issues 230 and 238 of Clarkesworld yesterday in the post to scratch an itch for a physical literary SF magazine. Looking forward to some specific stories in them.

Shame so few magazines exist now and even less with interior art, if any.

Dug out my copy of Galactic Pot-Healer after a conversation with a friend. I’ve read 7 of his books and I can’t say he was a particularly good writer, with some real stinkers to his name. But I’ve never quite given up trying to find one great novel he wrote.

On the pile it goes..
