The old internet had a lot going for it, but I still remember the time some creeper tried to convince me and my sister to meet him at the DQ on a BBS. We had no idea what to say or do

So we turned the computer off

My naturopath is moving to goddamned Langley (the Canadian one, but it’s still fucking far). I could stick to virtual visits but just in case: does anyone know of a non-kooky NP in Vancouver, North Vancouver or Burnaby? Preferably transitable

Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of.

What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

No two words send AI industry advocates into fits of rage more than "stochastic parrots." The question is: Why? Why do they get so worked up over this particular critical framework time and time again?

The two words the AI industry hates more than anything
I talk with computational linguist Emily M. Bender, co-author of the influential 2021 “stochastic parrots” paper, about why AI industry leaders can’t stop seething over the term.
