I understand this view but I think we should consider the implications of preemptively giving up charging a criminal with crimes because the jury may not convict

Not only is this not the behavior of a trustworthy news outlet, they haven't even figured out how to link an article and post a picture in the same post.

this is a very dishonestly framed article given that in the actual text of the article it acknowledges that he confirmed he stands by sponsoring the equality act after giving the answer the headline refers to, a fact that directly contradicts the headline

this is literally why you have uniforms and badges every member of the media pretending that any of this is due to anything else should be frogmarched out of public life
The NYPD just released surveillance video of the ICE shooting (which occurred off camera).

Two men in civilian clothes run up to a car with guns drawn. One second later, one man begins smashing the butt of his gun into the driver’s side window. The driver appears to panic and hit the gas.

Read/listen to his statement before getting too stoked about this. Much like Henrico, there is no admission of fault or promise to steer clear of other surveillance tech. No commitment to abandoning the hardware now (rich coming from a city hall willing to light money on fire elsewhere). Stay pissed

My girlfriend recently posted a clip from her old web series where she, a white woman, gets into a very funny argument with her character’s boyfriend, a Black man. It went viral.

The comments are ✨insane✨. I report all of them but every. single. time. Instagram says no terms were violated.
i used to report this kinda stuff to instagram every time i saw it (which was often) and it never, ever got taken down. really bad.

re: trump buying russian diesel... is enough even going to arrive stateside before the election...? it's less than 30 days, how quickly can enough diesel get into US ports -> pipelines/other infra -> gas stations to impact prices anywhere, let alone places like OH?

What a strange story. California woman finds a man, allegedly drunk, sleeping on her lawn early in the morning & sends her dad out to move him. The man wakes up & allegedly assaults the (elderly) dad, who shoots him

Turns out the man is off-duty ICE agent David Gonzalez abc7.com/story/off-du...

This sort of casual cruelty, and worse, is so common in U.S. jails/prisons that to most it barely registers as scandalous—but it is, and this reporting really matters:

i think this gets at the crux of it. It doesn't matter if they are actively preventing people from dropping ballots off, or if they're there by accident, or what--their presence could still be viewed as intimidating, and the solution is for them not to be *anywhere*
it might not even be explicit voter intimidation by design, right? it's just that there are national guard all over the city, so they're always standing around places they shouldn't be, which is every place. the solution is for them not to be there at all.

they don't have to for it to be intimidation
Not to be all "you're getting sold" National Guard troops spend all day standing in out of the way corners of DC. Not great that they're standing in front of a ballot drop box, but c'mon, people, use some common sense. They're not stopping anyone from dropping something off.
This is clearly not acceptable

the idea that publishing a person's name is doxing was already ridiculous even before that understanding became the government's claimed position
Asked about Cuni’s history, the Department of Homeland Security said it would “never confirm or deny attempts to dox our law enforcement officers” because “publicizing their identities puts their lives and the lives of their families at serious risk.”
October 9, 2026 at 8:49 PM
Really disgusting seeing idiots in the comments asking why the city/MPD does nothing. Do you people think for even a second that if they had the ability to remove the nastygirls from DC that they wouldn't do it? Nobody wants them there. They want them out. But the MPD isn't a personal army for DC!
This is clearly not acceptable

a lot of people are replying with 'what are you going to do about it,' and while every level of government could do more, the powers the *DC City Council* has in this situation are comparatively limited. This isn't just voter intimidation, but an argument for statehood for the District of Columbia.
This is clearly not acceptable
