if your AI writing can’t hold up because it’s being fingerprinted maybe you shouldn’t be using it

the one thing I remember the HP books doing well was dropping a little plot hint in a very obvious way, so that when All Was Revealed at the end of the book & the hint came to make sense, you felt very clever for having noticed it
There's a whole nother discussion to be had about WHY Harry Potter was so popular and a lot of "read THIS instead of HP" takes miss the point. The books had accessible writing - 3rd graders could comfortably read #1-#3 - but longer and more sophisticated plots and themes than similarly written books
The idea that Harry Potter became popular because of a massive marketing budget is cope. I was there. It was an insane phenomenon. There were kids who had never read a book before bragging that their aunt was traveling to England so she was picking up Book 2 before it made it to America.

i’m convinced that the revulsion against destructive digitisation is a purely aesthetic one. the physical media is not the important part! you just don’t like the idea of destroying books because you saw the bad guys do it on The World At War
i don't see the issue with digitizing rare books. the true crime is that they don't submit them to the internet archive (they would be in even more deep trouble with copyrightholders if they did 🙄)
No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions.

Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.

Parfait spoons are my favourite specialised utensil. Some things, especially sweet ones, just taste better on a tiny spoon: tiramisu, little cakes and custard, peaches & meringues.

The Japanese have figured this out: you will never seen someone eat chawan mushi with a big spoon.

the trick to coping with this is to start identifying powerfully with the generated code (“i made this”) which coincidentally also forces you to take responsibility for it

why are we still litigating this? new lines of code has not been a vanity metric since circa 2007; everyone agrees that code is a liability and that’s why we all share our prs that are like

having used claude extensively for the past couple of months, i think there is still a lot of value to understanding your code and steering it intentionally. the amount of incidental complexity claude accumulates otherwise (which mostly results in bugs that it can't ever fix reliably) is staggering.
