The crisis in the Strait of Hormuz is about more than control of a waterway. It exposes a deeper and more familiar problem: the repeated failure of the United States to match military power with equally serious strategic thought.

The most obvious strategic move following strikes in Iran has become a central problem for the United States.

@joncduffy.bsky.social is always worth a read. His thoughts on the legality and the consequences of US basically kidnapping the leader of a sovereign country without following the rule of law and Constitutional process.

Speaking of Book View Cafe's Boxing Day sale, grab Vonda McIntyre's story "SCOTUS Defines Personhood," written in 2011 and is still scarily relevant today. Add $5.99+ of books to your cart and get 50% off.

It's the Book View Cafe Boxing Day sale, where everything is 50% off. I stock up every year. And I was super disappointed to see some ugly AI covers on some new books by Alicia Rasley. WTF, Book View Cafe?

Reporting now confirms that U.S. forces fired second missiles at survivors of our own strikes. This is no “gray area.” It’s illegal — and it morally injures the very people we ask to serve.
My op-ed in the LA Times on why killing survivors is neither legal nor moral: www.latimes.com/opinion/stor...
Contributor: Killing survivors is not a legal or moral gray area
There is a rule every professional military knows it cannot break: You do not attack people who can no longer fight, such as survivors of the recent boat strikes in Latin America.

I started using an AI image detector and ran questionable book covers on my wishlist through it. Well, my to-buy list is now significantly smaller. I wish I had thought to do this sooner as I had bought a fair number of books with AI covers that I hadn't pegged as AI. Indie authors, do better.

I was in a very purple mood this weekend. (What else is new?) New yarn at The Yarn Store at Nob Hill in Albuquerque! Including a new 100% North American wool base that is love, and sock blanks.

Rejoice! The Targhee Worsted base is back in stock at the mill. *Immediately buys $1000 dollars worth of undyed yarn*

This is the ten billion dollar question isn't it?
We’re killing people at sea without trial or oversight. A secret memo now promises immunity.
This is what happens when a system built to obey forgets how to take a moral stand.
My LA Times op-ed: “Do our military leaders have the backbone to disobey illegal orders?”
www.latimes.com/opinion/stor...

A recently uncovered memo promises U.S. soldiers immunity for the killing of more than 80 people in boat strikes throughout the Caribbean, effectively conceding it crossed a line.
