"Disagree about facts." Wut?
The best cure for ideological bias is find someone on the other side and go to lunch with them.⁣

Dark thread.

Since we watched Musk literally push a "protect the Boers" button in real time with Grok, we now know people or companies could theoretically pay their way into putting a thumb on the scale for Grok/Claude/ChatGPT. This is why the AI stans want you to believe it's thinking

Thread. The chamber of commerce basically calls the shots in Asheville city hall, to a degree ridiculous even by local government standards, so this is worth watching.

Worth noting #avlgov has already hiked taxes and cut services to pour even more cash into the police department post-Helene.
Yesterday we received a "public safety survey" being circulated by the Asheville Chamber of Commerce and it's a doooozy. It's also worth taking a closer look at since it shows how the crime panic propaganda sausage is getting made...

Why doesn’t this person understand the of point of private schools is to prevent social mobility?
My loosely held contrarian view is that private schools probably have minimal impact on social mobility, because they are one of the lowest value-add things you can do with that amount of money.
When private schools lose the Spectator...

The fact this article could be published in this publication shows why - whatever one thinks of the merits - Labour's VAT policy was a political free hit.

Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics.

A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

Speak for yourself
I don't think we disdain the center-right enough.

First, they rode nativist populist tigers to power to get their tax cuts and deregulation;

Then, they lost control of their own parties to those tigers;

Now, they sit in lucrative jobs as columnists writing about how it's all the left's fault.

Damn capitalists trying to muscle in on our socialism again.
Alex Karp of Palantir says the AI industry must be nationalized to protect it from lawsuits if it accidentally destroys the world. More likely, he sees the bubble about to burst and he wants to be bought out with our tax dollars before that happens.
