At a store over the weekend, my son and I approached an escalator that wasn't working, and I just said out loud, "Escalator temporarily stairs," and from out of nowhere I heard someone say "Sorry for the convenience" and my hope for the future grew 10 fold.

say what you will about the myriad valid concerns with current LLMs but I personally will never get over the fact that Aaron Swartz was prosecuted to his literal death for downloading JSTOR and then a decade later, they downloaded & ingested the entire world and our IP laws just went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Using AI helps people get higher grades and get their work done faster, but they learn less & suffer on actual exams

I saw this in my own large Intro Psych class:
-the exam average is 85%
-after AI, it shot up to 95%
-after I made the final in person it went to 68%

@erinosmon.bsky.social - Just finished “Won’t Back Down” and wanted to drop a note of thanks.

Came to it for Petty & Mellencamp and left listening to Lucinda Williams & diving back into Bonnie Raitt.

As a Gen X Midwesterner and an LA ex-pat please accept my big freakin high five.

Aw man, such incredibly sad news about Glen Hansard! What a huge loss of poetic curiosity, vocal peerlessness, musical creativity, and genuine connective kindness. He turned our 45-minute interview into a two-hour hang and had the greatest boom of a laugh.

New: State health officials say parsley and cilantro appear to be linked to surging cyclospora cases in North Carolina

The disclosure comes as the FDA says it’s investigating a new outbreak linked to an unidentified source. Unclear if the two are related
