Let's use municipal fragmentation for good.

I do not want to be governed by the councilmembers representing the sprawl areas within my city limits who vote to let their residents tear-ass through my neighborhood.

The urban core should incorporate itself as the city and let the sprawl be suburbs.
17 community boards — plus more than 60 city and state officials — are demanding that the Mamdani administration designate their neighborhoods as “Slow Zones,” by taking advantage of a state law that allows the mayor to reduce car speeds to 20 mph. buff.ly/FQDBi0p

The mobility of children is simply not taken seriously or viewed as important. Something illustrative is how people will often say that kids "don't count" when you remind them that children and young teens are nondrivers who deserve the right to get around without cars.

People who failed math knock the Harry Potter AI SA Cult as "STEMlords" but

their whole shit is "rationalism"

which is presocratic "I have derived that all matter is made of triangles" nonsense

and rejecting explicitly empiricism aka science aka

"looking at and thinking about the actual world"
STEM-focused educations leave no room for critical thinking about the thing in front of you, just the truth of the thing in front of you.

the solution to pets in rentals is to prohibit any bans more stringent than the jurisdiction's laws on the keeping of animals.

bad landlords steal security deposits, so let them put that money to work fixing whatever damage the dog caused

If both landlord and doggies are good boys, no harm done

Completely false. I bought my house 40 years ago for $80,000, I could never afford this $600,000 condo, ergo it is luxury housing for people I don’t like.

What is my house worth today? I don’t see how that is relevant and frankly it’s a pretty rude question for you to even ask.
the thing with luxury condos is that they're mostly a myth.

1. within the same county, condos sell for 35% less than single family homes
2. within the same neighborhood, they sell for 43% less
3. within the same neighborhood and adjusting for some quality characteristics, they sell for 21% less

add dams, aqueducts, bridges, schools...

all the people who voted for Prop 13 did the math and figured out that they would only wear out from lack of upkeep right as the voters were dying of old age

it's why we need repeal and retroactive gains expropriation NOW, while they're alive to pay.
I think it’s hard to argue that AC transit hasn’t been on a 45 year managed decline after the passage of prop 13 decimated local funding in the early 80s Bus fleet is down over 20% from the early 1980s when 850 buses were on roster down to about 650.
service hours in the past decade have slashed

it's important to remember that we are winning the "build homes so people can live where they need or want to" battle not because we have fun shouting at randos, but because the number of voters who are hurt by the housing shortage is now greater than the number who benefit from the housing shortage

Sincere question to the slop enthusiasts on here:

If you can't be bothered to write the message, why should I be bothered to read it?

The purpose of writing is for a person to communicate with others.

The LLM random word generator does not have a mind. It's not even wind chimes.
I think everybody who uses Claude to make PowerPoint presentations in 5 minutes because they're too lazy to do it themselves should be forced to spent a night trying to sleep near a data center.

Millennial planners: We are now over 40; our age makes us a protected class.

When a Prop 13er living in decadent luxury comes to your public meeting to curse you out for projects that would lessen the midcentury mansion subsidies, declare it a hostile work environment and report it to HR.

In California, for example, YIMBY groups have pushed hard for major housing affordability bonds. SB 423 is primarily an affordable housing bill. When we had two dueling social housing bills, it was actually the traditional "housing justice" groups that were pushing the toothless study bill.

Anyone using weather as an excuse to advocate against safe biking infrastructure is a counterfactual asshole. Some of the cities around the world that have the highest rates of transit riding have real winter conditions. Riders deserve to get home alive even if it is chilly out.

California elected officials who actually set policy and are universally Democrats think it's awesome when people are killed by cars. If they could push a button that killed 1,000 extra people per year but shaved 10 mins off their constituents' average daily commute, they'd push it in a heartbeat.

This is a very important op-ed.

I cannot ride a standard bike because of physical limitations.

I have a real concern over the fearmongering around ebikes, that my only mode of personally powered transportation can be restricted, or taken away from me entirely.

We have to stop this NOW.
The explosion of e-bikes, e-trikes and e-scooters is truly revolutionary...The joy and freedom of biking is intoxicating for everyone who has had the opportunity to try out life on two or three wheels with a little e-boost.
Op-Ed | E-bikes mean freedom for low-vision cyclists like me: don’t take that away | amNewYork
So did a lot of other people who, like me, don’t have valid driver’s licenses. In July, the state’s new e-bike law went into effect. Among other regulations
