It is incredibly unhelpful to think of the Lost Cause as simply a short list of "lies" about the Civil War. We need to understand how the Lost Cause emerged organically in the wake of defeat and as lived experience in different parts of the South. That's not an easy thing to do in this moment. 🗃️

1) Thank you, Karin. I’m happy that both the 1998 and 2026 DNA tests results jibe with the historical evidence compiled in my first book. I also think the historical information alone should be enough. But I know the world we live in & why DNA was brought into the picture.
Family history and genealogy, media juicing up controversy and fawning over science while failing to get that yes the historical analysis was conclusive. I couldn't not write about this!

How dare the National Museum of the American Indian refer to George Washington with a name that he was given by the Iroquois in 1753, a name which he himself used in his correspondence!
