not only was this the first truly decisive election in 15 years, not only was it the first real repudiation the MAGA Republican Party has experienced, but it is an earthquake in the South. with investment — and with laws protecting the right to vote — the whole region could be blue.

This is such an important point, but it's not only that we think of our own civil war as "orderly" but that we think of it as exceptional. What other nation builds gift shops at sites where thousands of men died and suffered? #CivilWarMemory

i think one problem is that when americans think "civil war" they think our unusually orderly one (which even that is overstated, see: missouri) and not the typical experience of civil conflict which is largely just random murder
